Odds & Ends

This past weekend, we worked on some odds and ends that needed to be tied up. First, Jason's mom helped with a decorative treatment for our bedroom - an accent wall. We think it's pretty neat -tried to get a close up for you.

The doors you see above are salvage yard finds. That is the closet in the upstairs bathroom. We found these doors, once on a church office. Jason only had to take a bit off the bottom to fit them in. He added the track and now they are perfect closet doors.

Next you'll see a picture of the patched floor. Originally, there was a beautiful register in the floor right in the entryway. At least, that's what we think! When we arrived there was an area rug covering a badly patched floor. Jason's done his best to use the same wood as elsewhere in the house to make it a little less noticeable.

The last picture is of the 2 doors Erika and Carol have been stripping. The side door to the house was painted white on one side (that's the door to the back). The other door used to be on the upstairs bathroom, but has been moved to the downstairs. That also had one side painted white. We'll show you the new upstairs bath door soon.

We're proud to announce all of the painting is DONE!!! We'll post pics of the downstairs bath freshly painted soon. Other than paint stripping, Jason is now fixing up the staircase, taking off the fronts of the treads to clean them and then re-nailing them and gluing them. We're also spending this week getting estimates for floor refinishing. That is our next big project, and we can't wait to see how they turn out. Then it will definitely start looking like a home!

Paint and Light Fixtures: Part III

And finally, some photos of the kids rooms. Leah's will be the ultimate diva room, complete with a chandelier. If you know Jason, you know that he would not stand for that elsewhere in the house, so Erika is thrilled to have been able to sneak one in somewhere. Jack's rooms is army green with a pretty tough looking light fixture.

What's so exciting about Jack's room is the woodwork and doors. We found a great wood restoring product and tried it out here first. We can't get over how great it looks! You can only imagine how exciting it was to get the wood looking this great WITHOUT sanding, staining and applying poly again. There will be enough of that with all of the new woodwork we'll need!

We have a few more light fixtures and paint to finish up before moving on to floors, but already it's an amazing transformation!

Paint and Light Fixtures: Part II

A few photos of our beautiful chandelier for the entryway (we're so excited about it!!!) and our kitchen. Not the best lighting in the kitchen, apologies, but you can see it's soft green. We'll focus more on the kitchen when we put in those cabinets...........

Paint and Light Fixtures: Part I

In order to keep all the photos straight, I'll be doing a couple of posts here. We've had a busy week adding COLOR to the walls. It's amazing how homey it feels now! The photos at the top are of the downstairs hall, where Jason put in the bathroom and laundry room doors. You can also see the paint color in the entryway, which we carried through the upstairs and downstairs hallways. The last two photos are of the light fixture in the living room, and the paint in the living room. As you can see, we've painted the awful bricks. Stay tuned for more with the mantle - our friend Shawn starts work on it tomorrow!

Drywall is FINISHED!

As you can imagine, we are THRILLED that the drywall is up and finished. We'd like to take a minute to give a well-deserved shout out to JC's Drywall for an amazing job! These guys came when they said they would, charged what the said they would, and did some very nice work. The were done on the Wednesday the 7th, and Carol and Erika spent Thursday and Friday wiping down walls and beginning the primer. After yet another busy weekend, we are just about done with priming AND ceiling paint. Just a couple more hours and it will be official. The first 3 are from our big painting day this weekend, and the last 3 are the finished drywall before primer.

Jason is almost done with our electric, so stay tuned to see installed light fixtures and color on the walls!

What a Busy Weekend!

As you can see, we've had QUITE the weekend! The drywall finishers are making lots of progress, but waiting for them to finish....well, we got bored! Saturday, Jason tiled the shower (photos to come), while Erika tiled the downstairs bath (travertine with brown decoratives) by herself! Today, we worked together on the upstairs bath floor (white and black). Erika tiled while Jason made cuts on his new toy, the wet saw. Just a bit of tile and partially finished drywall and it's really looking like a home - finally!
